Utlandsstudier leder till en högre inkomst

Studenter som studerat utomlands efter gymnasiet fick högre framtida förvärvsinkomster än de som inte gjort det. De arbetade också fler timmar per månad i genomsnitt. Det visar en ny studie över effekterna av utlandsstudier.

Inkomsteffekterna var störst för utbytesstudenter och för dem som hade en kombination av olika slags utlandsstudier.

Orsakssambandet mellan utlandsstudier och inkomstnivå är inte helt klarlagt. Eftersom utlandsstuderande tenderade att vara yngre, ha högre medelbetyg och komma från en annan social bakgrund kan skillnaderna även bero på en självselektion, vilket innebär att andra egenskaper som t.ex. drivkraft och företagsamhet inte har kunnat konstanthållas i undersökningen. Mycket tyder på att utlandsstudier i allmänhet kan fungera som en sorteringsvariabel för arbetsgivarna.
