P/E-talet är ett populärt nyckeltal bland aktieinvesterare just på grund av att det kan användas för att jämföra värderingen av olika företag. P/E talet visar på det antal år som det tar för en aktieinvestering att betala tillbaka sig med antagande om en konstant vinst per aktie. P/E-talet har dock på grund av sin enkelhet en stor begränsning i och med att det inte tar hänsyn till företagens prognostiserade vinsttillväxt. Jämförelser på grund av P/E –tal kan därför bli missvisande i och med att tillväxtföretag anses vara högt värderade och icke tillväxt företag anses lågt värderade.

Jag har många gånger varit ute på de större finanssajterna för att leta efter köpvärda aktier, jag har då tittat på P/E-tal och direktavkastning och sorterat aktielistorna för att hitta de företag med lägst P/E-tal och de företag med högst direktavkastning. När jag har hittat det riktiga klippet då börjar jag fundera på om det verkligen kan vara så bra som det ser ut att vara. Jag kontrollerar därför siffrorna mot egna beräkningar utifrån företagets årsredovisning. Jag upptäcker då att uppgifterna på den specifika finanssajten inte stämmer. Jag bestämde mig därför att kontrollera hur bra uppgifterna på de olika finanssajterna stämmer.
